In this Briefing Paper we discuss approaches to Biodiversity Net Gain for use in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. We hope that it will contribute to a broader discussion about the best approach for Ireland, and will assist policy-makers in each jurisdiction when developing national guidance. This document has been prepared by the Ireland Policy Group of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). CIEEM is the main professional body for ecologists in Ireland, with 530 members across the island. We are a cross-border group, so this document represents our view both for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
