This handout accompanies the presentation on Mapping Governance, providing some further detail and links. The governance landscape includes the general system(s), the actors, tools etc that are used for nature protection. It also includes those in other areas with which they interact. The governance landscape forms a large part of how behaviour is shaped and potentially controlled currently. In reflecting on the status quo and potential recommendations, it is worth considering that some governance components may be changed or adapted more easily than others. However, this does not negate the possibility that major changes or even overhauls may be needed and appropriate,10 e.g. linked to environmental rights or well-being.
