Other activities include: Organising volunteering activities, such as removing litter, planting trees and clearing invasive species. Opposing inappropriate development proposals. Collecting data on patterns of use of the Cave Hill, and users' views, by carrying out user surveys. Seeking to influence relevant statutory bodies, such as Belfast City Council.
Grassroots NI
Grass Roots have been working in the Greater Belfast area for over 40 years, on well-known sites such as the Bog Meadows, Colin Glen and along the River Lagan, protecting habitats and improving access. At times, we travel further afield, and we have worked on sites right across Northern Ireland. We carry out all sorts of conservation tasks, from tree planting to drystone walling, digging ponds to wildlife surveys and fencing to hedge-laying. Every year we are involved in Beachwatch, organised by the Marine Conservation Society, and we have social events through the year to enjoy the countryside we work in. Grass Roots work fortnightly at the weekend; we would love you to join us.
